Melissa Word is an artist, dancer, and ritualist based in Atlanta, GA. She is currently screen printing quilted posters to hang around her city as deliciously disruptive, creative PSAs.
Melissa’s first memory of the internet: “the phrase ‘surf the net’ jumps to mind, ask jeeves internet oracle, being sneaky in AOL chat rooms and watching in amazement at 10 or 11 years old at how fast the chat moved in a sea of absurd screen names.”
The last book she recommended was Die Wise by Stephen Jenkinson for a heavy gut-punch that will rearrange all your cells, and The War of Art for an easy, inspiring read that will also shake up the inner snow globe of your creative life.
A film that reminds her of childhood is Clueless—”that computerized outfit selector closet technology was so boss and chic and futuristic. I credit that scene for instigating my lifelong sartorial fascination.”
